By Santos Zefania
Parliament of Malawi Thursday welcomed a 16-member delegation from the National Assembly of The Gambia in a visit aimed at strengthening cooperation and sharing parliamentary best practices between the two countries.
The delegation is led by Speaker Fabakary Tombong Jatta and includes Members of Parliament as well as parliamentary staff.
The visit forms part of efforts by African legislatures to deepen collaboration and enhance institutional capacity through exchange programmes and benchmarking initiatives.
Speaking during the official reception, Speaker of the Parliament of Malawi Sameer Suleman said the engagement reflects the strong bilateral relations between Malawi and The Gambia and underscores the commitment of both legislatures to advancing democracy and good governance on the African continent.
In his remarks to the House, Jatta emphasized the critical role parliaments play in promoting national development, saying there is a need for continuous exchange of knowledge and experience to enhance legislative effectiveness, representation and oversight functions in their respective countries.
