Malawi Airlines Sponsors Gwamba concert with K18 Million to Host Nasty C.

By Alfred Banda

Malawi Airlines has partnered with award-winning Malawian rapper Gwamba to sponsor air travel for South African hip-hop star Nasty C and his team, ahead of the much-anticipated Grand Finale concert slated for November 30 at Aero Lounge in Lilongwe.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Gwamba expressed gratitude to the national airline for the generous support, revealing that the sponsorship includes eight flight tickets, two Business Class and six Economy Class, worth K18 million.

“This sponsorship couldn’t have come at a better time, as it allows us to focus on other preparations knowing the travel arrangements are fully sorted,” Gwamba said.

He added that Malawi Airlines’ gesture has boosted confidence in the upcoming event, which will mark one of the biggest music shows of the year, bringing together local and international artists.

Nasty C, one of Africa’s top-selling hip-hop artists, is expected to headline the concert alongside Gwamba and other Malawian performers. The show promises to deliver an unforgettable night of entertainment, marking a major milestone for Malawi’s creative industry.

However, the sponsorship has sparked mixed reactions among social media users. While many congratulated Gwamba and praised Malawi Airlines for promoting local entertainment, others questioned the decision, suggesting that the money could have been used to support social initiatives.

One Facebook user commented in Chichewa: “Ndalama kupita kundalama zimzake dziko lokondera,” implying that sponsoring a wealthy artist was unnecessary. Still, others defended the move, arguing that such partnerships help raise Malawi’s profile by attracting international attention and boosting the country’s creative economy.

Despite the online debate, anticipation for The Grand Finale concert remains high, with fans eager to witness Gwamba and Nasty C share the stage in what promises to be a defining moment for Malawian music.
