United Football Club (FC) have appointed Audro Makonyola as their new head coach, replacing Oscar Kaunda, who moved to newly-promoted Mitundu Baptist FC a team that Makonyola guided to the top flight league during the just ended 2025 season.
Karonga United’s General Secretary, Ramsey Simwaka, confirmed the development on Wednesday in an interview with Malawi News Agency (MANA), saying that Makonyola had signed a one-year performance-based contract with the Ingwinas of Karonga.
“Yes, it’s true that Coach Audro Makonyola is our new head coach and we’re delighted to see him sign a one-year contract and get to work with our exciting squad,” he said.
Simwaka added Makonyola’s proven track record of developing young players was a key factor in his appointment, with Karonga boasting a squad made up of youngsters.
Makonyola a former Blue Eagles and Eagle Strikers head coach, has described his appointment as a milestone in his professional coaching career.
