The Board secretary for Mighty Wanderers Football Club, Chancy Gondwe, has refuted some speculations circulating on social media that they have parted ways with their talented midfielder maestro Francisco Madinga following his refusal denial to extend his contract with the Lali Lubani outfit.
According to a press statement released Tuesday, signed by Gondwe, it says Madinga is still on a valid running contract until 6th August but they are not agreeing to the conditional terms of extending his stay.
“The battle is still on, in the meantime the club engaged in discussion with him regarding possible contact renewal. Negotiations are at an advanced stage. The club will make an official announcement on the future status of Madinga in due course,” he said.
Highly placed sources indicate that Madinga demanded K1 million monthly salary and K10 million signing-on fee for a two-year contract conditions which the Nomads are not comfortable with.
Meanwhile Football analyst, Parry Chinyama, said that Madingas expected departure has come at a critical time where he is currently in top form with Wanderers leading the chase for the top flight TNM Super League Championship as well as competing in the Confederations of African Football (CAF) tournament, thereby losing him could be a big blow.“Madinga is an experienced player who could assist them, the Nomads have a good squad with Madinga adding flair and creativity to the team hence his departure could disturb them.
“I therefore urge the management staff of Wanderers to keep him,” he said.
However, reports from Mozambique indicate that one of the leading top flight clubs there, Costa do Sol are interested in signing Madinga and are closely following the developments.
According to a representative of Costa do Sol, who opted for anonymity, said despite that Mozambican football rules allows a team to sign a maximum of 7 international players the club is eager to bring Madinga on board with the intention of loaning him out to a Malawian club, as they are currently unable to register foreign players and would only use him until after the next transfer window.
Madinga joined Wanderers in 2019 and has since then played in Georgia, and Botswana before rejoining the nomads in 2023.
