Inspirational Quotes for the Weekend

By Dr Charles Leyman Kachitsa

Football has done it again. This time it is women football in Africa as seen from the African Cup tournament which ended last week. The momentum is such that some quarters are already talking about upsetting the scales, making ladies football more popular than men’s. Such is the dream which is more probably than it is impossible. Who can imagine an era fifty years from now where the generation then will not believe that football was at one time only for men, in that time it could be that only women footballing would be prominent and the most popular sport. That scenario cannot be denied.

A piece of round leather being chased by boys and depending on age, men, has in more recent times attracted interest globally. Though now we can say girls or women have joined the party. It is said that football industry is one of the most lucrative sectors that has witnessed sky rocketing of revenue generation never imagined before. The rewards for continental and the world tournament to participants are becoming more competitive. And the sport is becoming so ever very powerful.

Football has done it as a template for many aspects of life. Who could imagine that even nations at war as enemies do give up all, laying down everything and go on to play against each other. Smiling at each other as a show of true humanity which does not see any differences on a people that are all from one source. Football brings unity and happiness apart from the entertainment that it provides and the physical nourishment for the muscles of the body. As stated in one of my previous writing, I believe there is a lot we can learn from football.

The quotes this week is a continuation of extraction from a book that is a guide be it about attracting happiness, motivating yourself, motivating others, getting jobs don, maintaining a work-life balance, increasing your energy level, or enjoying a healthy and happy life, it is the one to read. I am sure the listed quotations from the book listed below will enlighten you to one or two life lessons. Read and enjoy:

SUCCESS THROUGH A POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE by Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Hill

“Motivation is that which induces action or determines choice. It is that which provides a motive. A motive is the ‘inner urge’ only within the individual which incites him to action, such as an instinct, passion, emotion, habit, mood, impulse, desire or idea. —- It is the hope or other force which starts an action in an attempt to produce specific results. —- Motivating yourself and others. When you know principles that can motivate you, you will then know principles that can motivate others. Conversely, when you know principles that can motivate others, you will then know principles that can motivate you.”

“….. Man is the only member of the animal kingdom who, through the functioning of his conscious mind, can voluntarily control his emotions from within, rather than be forced to do so by external influences. —– And he alone can deliberately change habits of emotional response. The more civilized, cultured and refined you are, the more easily you can control your emotions and feelings if you choose to do so.”

“Defeat may be a stepping stone or a stumbling block depending on whether your attitude is positive or negative.”

“No matter what your job may be – boss or employee; plant manager or factory worker; doctor or nurse; lawyer or secretary; teacher or student; housewife or maid – you owe it to yourself to find satisfaction in your job as long as you have it. —— You can, you know. Satisfaction is a mental attitude. Your own mental attitude is the one thing you possess over which you alone have complete control. You can determine to find satisfaction in your job, and discover the way to do so. —— You are more apt to find satisfaction in your job if you do ‘what comes naturally’  – that for which you a natural aptitude or liking. When you take a job that doesn’t ‘come naturally’ you may experience mental and emotional conflicts and frustrations. You can, however, neutralize and eventually overcome such conflicts and frustrations………..”
