Sons and Daughters of Kasungu – Lilongwe Chapter on Tuesday donated three wheelchairs to Kasungu District Hospital to ease mobility of patients in the facility.
Chairperson for the grouping, Charles Joseph Nyirenda said the donation reflects the group\’s objective of responding to various challenges being faced in the communities.
\”Kasungu District Hospital is a historical facility for us as sons and daughters with roots in Kasungu District. Some of us were born here and some have their parents still living in the district and are getting medical help at this hospital.
\”We understand there are many challenges in the communities and it will take the effort of each and every individual to lessen or deal with them,\” Nyirenda said.
Receiving the donation, Matron for the hospital, Doris Mwafulirwa expressed gratitude for the wheelchairs saying they are an important asset in the hospital operations.
She said: \”As a facility, we are very thankful to the group for giving us the wheelchairs. These are important assets in the functions of the hospital in that they aid in the mobility of patients.
\”It must be understood that while government is doing its part, it cannot provide everything because the population keeps increasing on daily basis. This is why I would like to call upon well-wishers that as they think of making their donations elsewhere, they should not forget hospitals.\”
Earlier in the day, the group conducted a cleaning exercise and later cheered patients in the children’s ward where it donated assorted grocery items including sugar, cooking oil, flour and soap worth K2.5 million.
Sons and Daughters of Kasungu was established in 2023 with an aim of assisting one another in times of need and mobilising various kinds of assistance to respond to community needs.
Kasungu District Hospital was built in 1968 and serves a population of about a million people.
