Government, through the Ministry of Finance, has disbursed K7,866,318,182 by end of June 2026 to local councils that have finalized the identification and appraisal of projects to be implemented
According to a statement signed by the Principal Secretary for Decentralization, Peterson Ponderani, not all councils have completed the process. As of July 1, some local councils were still finalizing the procurement of contractors.
The statement further said that once contractors have been identified, resources for advance payments will be released to the respective councils.
Treasury will also continue disbursing project management funds based on cashflows submitted by local councils.
The Ministry has further disclosed that Treasury has already started disbursing resources for youth and women loans to the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund, MEDF.
According to the statement, the disbursement of Constituency Development Fund, CDF, resources is on track. It commenced at the beginning of the 2026/2027 financial year with funding for project preparation.
Treasury says it remains committed to the timely disbursement of CDF resources to ensure the successful implementation of CDF projects and programs.
