Government has pledged continued support for the manufacturing sector through policies and programmes aimed at strengthening industrial growth in line with the Malawi 2063 development agenda.
Deputy Minister of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism Edgar Tembo said this on Saturday evening during the 125th National Product Magazine Official Launch and Mid-Year National Product of Malawi Awards Gala Dinner held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Tembo said government is creating an enabling environment for industries through investment incentives, infrastructure development and skills training programmes aimed at attracting more investors into the manufacturing sector.
“We are committed to strengthening the manufacturing sector because industrialisation is central to Malawi 2063.
Through strategic partnerships and supportive policies, we intend to create jobs, grow the economy and improve livelihoods,” said Tembo.
He said the ministry is also prioritising import substitution and export diversification to reduce reliance on foreign products while promoting locally manufactured goods in regional and international markets.
“Our goal is to build a vibrant industrial sector capable of producing quality goods locally and increasing exports.
Achieving this requires strong collaboration between government and an active private sector,” he added.
Tembo further encouraged manufacturers and business players to embrace innovation, technology and sustainable production practices, saying these are key to Malawi’s industrial transformation.
National Product Magazine Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Chinyamula said the awards aim to promote innovation, creativity and excellence among manufacturers and entrepreneurs.
He said recognition of local enterprises helps to improve production standards and contributes to national economic development.
“We are encouraged by the support from government and the private sector. Their commitment to quality production, innovation and business excellence is strengthening industries and creating opportunities for economic growth,” said Chinyamula.
He added that more than 10 local companies were recognised during the ceremony, including enterprises owned by young entrepreneurs contributing to job creation and economic growth.
