Fourteen youths depart for higher education in Morocco

By Martha Rukunya
Fourteen young Malawians departed for Morocco on Sunday to pursue higher education.
According to the Moroccan Ambassador, Naji Abdelkader, this initiative is one way of contributing to the development of Malawi, as Morocco firmly believes that education is a crucial driver of national progress.
“This is a significant step in strengthening the ties between our two nations. Morocco firmly believes that education is the key to national development, and we are committed to supporting Malawian students in gaining knowledge and skills that will benefit their country,” he said.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director of Higher Education, Dr. Valentino Zimpita, stated that Malawi expects to benefit significantly from this programme, noting that, in addition to classroom education, the students will also gain various skills and exposure to different languages.
“This programme goes beyond classroom education. These students will acquire new skills, be exposed to different cultures, and learn other languages, which will be beneficial when they return to contribute to Malawi’s development,” said Zimpita.
One of the students, Clyf Nangantani, expressed gratitude to the Government of Morocco and the Ministry of Higher Education for this opportunity. He emphasised that he and his fellow students would work hard to achieve good academic results and contribute to the development of Malawi upon their return.
“We are truly grateful to the Government of Morocco and the Ministry of Higher Education for this opportunity. We will work hard and make the most of this chance so that when we return, we can help develop our country,” said Nangantani.
This group marks the final cohort under the 2024-2025 programme, which was initially meant to benefit 100 students. However, three students were unable to participate due to various reasons.
