Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Madalitso Kazombo, has been laid to rest at Vikuyu Estate in Traditional Authority Kaomba, Kasungu District, amid an outpouring of grief from political leaders, traditional authorities and family members.
Kazombo, who served as Member of Parliament for Kasungu East Constituency from 2014 to 2025, died on Thursday after succumbing to asthma. He was 46.
Speaking during the funeral ceremony on Sunday, Speaker of Parliament Sameer Suleman described the late Kazombo as a dedicated and principled leader whose contribution to national governance would not be forgotten.Suleman said the late Kazombo demonstrated rare leadership in Parliament where he championed unity of purpose.
“The country has lost a dedicated citizen who served with integrity and commitment.
“He unified Parliament without looking at political affiliations. We will remember him for all the good things he did to this country,” Suleman said.
The Speaker expressed sadness describing Kazombo as a humble leader who inspired many.
“We are devastated and we offer our condolences to the family for the loss of a man who loved his country and served it well; a man who showed dedicated leadership and taught us patience and humility,” he said.
Former President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera also paid tribute to Kazombo, saying he was heartbroken by the loss.
“It is painful to lose young leaders who are pillars of society and from whom we learn many important things,” Chakwera said.Senior Chief Kaomba described the late legislator as a visionary leader whose absence will be felt both by his family and the wider community.
On its part, the family, said they had seen a bright future in Kazombo, citing his humility, hard work and love for others.
The family also expressed gratitude for the unity shown by political parties, noting that leaders from across the political divide attended the funeral ceremony.
Born on May 31, 1979, Madalitso Kazombo is survived by a wife and three children.
