Babatunde vows to give his best for Flames

By Gift Wahuta
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets forward Adepoju Adebare Babatunde says he is ready to give his all for the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, following his first call-up to the squad.
The Nigerian born striker, who recently completed his nationality switch, has been included in Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Príncipe.
Babatunde, who currently leads the TNM Super League scoring chart, described his inclusion as one of the proudest moments of his career.
“I will try my best to help the team in any way I can. This country has given me almost everything since I arrived in 2017.
‘‘I have worked with great coaches and teammates who have helped me grow, and now it’s time to give back. It feels good to wear the national colours and fight for Malawi.
‘Together with my teammates, I believe we can achieve great things,” he said, adding that representing Malawi is more than just a football opportunity but a sign of belonging to a country he now calls home.
Meanwhile, Flames Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa maintained 24 of the 26 players that featured in last month’s World Cup qualifiers against Namibia and Liberia.
He said keeping the same squad was important to ensure stability and consistency as the team prepares for the two crucial fixtures
The Flames will host Equatorial Guinea on October 9 at Bingu National Stadium before travelling to Tunis for the away match against São Tomé and Príncipe on October 13.
