Renowned comedian Andreya Thonyiwa, popularly known as Mr. Jokes, has organised a stand-up comedy show titled Akuchikazi Sanandimvetse, scheduled for Friday evening, 19 December, at M Cinema, Chichiri Shopping Mall in Blantyre.
Speaking to Malawi News Agency (Mana), Mr. Jokes said the event aims to bring people together, create laughter and promote a lighter atmosphere, noting that “laughter is the best therapy.”“I want to remind people not to give up on life when facing challenges. These days, many people struggle silently, and some end up committing suicide. Through comedy, I want to give the audience hope and to show them that I am always there for them,” Thonyiwa said.
He said preparations for the show are complete and promised a memorable performance.
“I am fully prepared to entertain the audience with fresh, relatable and unforgettable jokes. I also want to share my true story because people often believe rumours instead of the truth. There are many misunderstandings about me, and I want to clear them,” he said.
Mr. Jokes appealed to the public to support the local comedy industry, saying it has the potential to address some social challenges.
The audience at Chichiri Shopping Mall will also enjoy other performances, including dancing and poetry.
Poet Raphael Sitima of Chala Changa fame said he is ready for the stage after being away for some time.
“I am very hungry to give people what I have been cooking for so long. I have almost six new poems and I will recite all of them at this show, in addition to some old pieces,” he said.In addition to Sitima, Robert Chiwamba and Agorosso, performing as Gap Connection Crew, together with other artists, will also take to the stage.
Mr. Jokes has previously organised similar events, including one at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre in 2023 and another at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe in 2024.
The show will run from 6pm to 10pm. Tickets are going at K25,000 for standard entry, K40,000 for couples and K50,000 for VIP.
