Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr Shadric Namalomba, has called on media practitioners in the country to act as ambassadors for investment by embracing solution-based reporting that advances national development.
Speaking at the MISA Malawi Gala Dinner in Salima on Sunday, Namalomba challenged journalists to move beyond negative reporting and instead propose practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
“Don’t just dwell on problems. Help the nation by offering solutions.
Be ambassadors who attract investment to Malawi,” said Namalomba.Namalomba also cautioned against overreliance on artificial intelligence in newsrooms, urging reporters to uphold professional judgment and verification.
“Verify facts. Don’t just copy and paste. Let’s use our brains and avoid misinformation,” he said.
The minister further said that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s administration promotes media freedom, citing the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC)’s editorial independence as evidence of its commitment to good governance.
He added that MBC now operates free from political interference.
The World Press Freedom Day commemorations in Salima began with a solidarity walk, followed by a panel discussion focused on the media’s role in promoting sustainable development.
