MHRC, Miss Malawi partner to empower youth

By Patience Kapinda
The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has engaged the Miss Malawi Organisation in discussions aimed at forging a partnership to empower young people and strengthen human rights awareness across the country.
The meeting focused on developing collaborative programmes that amplify youth voices, promote creativity and encourage civic participation.
Under the proposed partnership, Miss Malawi 2025, Thandie Chisi, is expected to play an advocacy role by using her national platform to support human rights initiatives and inspire young people to actively contribute to their communities.
MHRC Executive Secretary Habiba Osman said working with influential platforms such as the Miss Malawi Organisation would enhance the commission’s outreach to young people.
“Engaging with platforms like the Miss Malawi Organisation allows us to reach young people in a meaningful way. By working together, we can empower youth voices to understand, claim and defend their rights, while encouraging active participation in building a stronger Malawi,” she said.
Chisi welcomed the initiative, describing it as an opportunity to give back to communities and support youth empowerment.
“I am honoured to use my platform to give back to our communities. Through this partnership, we aim to encourage young people to be creative, take initiative and have their voices heard in shaping the future of our country,” she said.
Both institutions described the engagement as the beginning of a promising partnership that brings together MHRC’s human rights mandate and the Miss Malawi Organisation’s influence to inspire and empower the next generation of Malawian leaders.
