The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has declared Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as the winner of the September 16 elections.
Announcing the results at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on Wednesday evening, MEC Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja said Mutharika secured the majority of votes cast across the country.
“The results we are announcing today reflect the will of Malawians as expressed through the ballot,” Mtalimanja said, adding that all complaints received during the process were addressed in line with the law.
The declaration ceremony was attended by political party representatives, government officials, members of the diplomatic community, civil society organizations, and election observers.
MEC has since called on all stakeholders to accept the outcome and maintain peace and unity in the country.
