The 7th edition of Mothers Day celebrations took place in Ndirande on Sunday, with various performances aimed at raising awareness against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The event, celebrated under the theme Protecting Mothers and Children Against Gender-Based Violence, drew large crowds from within Ndirande and Blantyre with attendees enjoying both music and the powerful message behind the performances.
Renowned artists including Black Syndicate Band, Hempress Rizzla, Boosters Band, Big Pillars, Vin Marley and many more performed at the event creating a memorable atmosphere for attendees.
One of the attendees, Elizabeth Ngwira, expressed her excitement, stating that such celebrations are vital in raising awareness.
“We receive the harshest treatment in our families and even in workplaces. Seeing people come together to sing and perform against this is the best form of awareness,” she said.
Gbray Sangala, one of the event organizers was pleased with the turnout, highlighting the importance of the annual celebration.
“We always celebrate women like this every year and this is our 7th edition. We are happy to see people of Ndirande and Blantyre support the cause. This year, the event served as a platform to celebrate mothers while addressing the critical issue of GBV. I hope next years will even be better than this,” he said.
