Government, through Ministry of Health, has completed the construction of 55 health posts in various constituencies in the country.
Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daud, said this in an interview with journalists on Thursday after she responded to questions some Members of Parliament (MPs) who asked the ministry to construct health centres in their areas.
Daud said, government’s plan is to construct 900 health posts in the communities but, currently, 55 have been complemented and will soon be handed over to the communities.
“It is our wish that we should exceed our target as we desire to construct a lot of health facilities in the communities. The president directed us that we should have health posts in each and every constituency. We have completed 55 in the first phase and we are going to the second phase where we are going to construct more,” Daud said.
She said due to decentralisation, some of the activities which were being done by her ministry have been devolved to the district councils.
She said, as such, MPs should put in proposals in their district development plans so that when funds are available they can be constructing more health posts in their communities in order to ease the burden of congestion district and central hospitals.
Daud also said, the ministry is trying its best to make sure that all the abandoned projects should be completed as soon as possible.
The Global Fund provided K4 billion towards the 55 health posts project while government was to provide K9 billion.
