Ntchisi District Council says it has successfully relocated all vendors who were illegally trading along the main road to a new designated site as part of efforts to decongest the boma and improve safety.
Council Chairperson Maloto Chimkombero said that Council has already provided essential services at the new location, including access to clean water and electricity, to facilitate a smooth transition and allow vendors to operate in a favorable environment
Chimkombero confirmed that the council peacefully moved all vendors from the roadside and ensured that water, electricity, and a proper trading environment are now operational to guarantee a safer environment for both vendors and customers.
He said the relocation is part of the Council’s broader efforts to decongest roads, improve safety, and reduce road accidents that have been prevalent at Ntchisi Boma.
The Council says it will also be enforcing trading regulations to prevent vendors from returning to the roadsides.
Chimkombero assured residents that the Council will continue to maintain and advance the new site to keep it clean, orderly, and conducive to business.
Authorities say the move is expected to create a more organized market while protecting traders and the public.
