Malawian fashion designer Chisomo Chavula has been selected to showcase her award-winning brand Chicha Fashions at the CMG Paris Fashion Week 2026, where she is expected to make her debut on the international fashion stage.
The showcase is scheduled for October 2 to 4 in Paris, France, marking a major milestone for the designer and Malawi’s creative industry.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Chavula described the opportunity as a moment of pride for all Malawian creatives who continue to pursue their dreams despite challenges.
“This nomination is deeply humbling, and I want to be clear, it does not belong to Chicha Fashions alone. It belongs to every Malawian creative who has dared to dream beyond their circumstances,” she said. She noted that Paris remains one of the world’s most influential fashion capitals and that the invitation presents an opportunity to place Malawi’s fashion industry on the global map.
“For a brand born in Mzuzu and built with Malawian hands to be invited onto that stage sends a powerful message that African creativity is no longer waiting to be discovered. We are here,” said Chavula.
The designer expressed hope that the recognition would attract investors and encourage institutions to support the growth of Malawi’s fashion sector.
Chavula said her collection will showcase elements of Malawi’s cultural identity through contemporary fashion designs inspired by traditional patterns and ceremonial heritage.
“My collection draws from the bold geometry of patterns and the elegance of our ceremonial traditions, all expressed through modern silhouettes and careful craftsmanship.
“I want the audience to feel Malawi – the warmth of our people, the pride of our culture and the ambition of our generation,” she explained.
She further encouraged young creatives across the country to remain focused on their goals regardless of their circumstances.“Your environment is not your ceiling. Keep refining your craft, keep documenting your work and take yourself seriously before the world does,” said Chavula.
She added that she hopes the experience will create opportunities for emerging designers and contribute to the growth of Malawi’s creative economy.
“I am going to Paris for all Malawians, and when I return, I hope to bring back real opportunities for the generation coming behind me,” she said.
Chavula’s participation in the CMG Paris Fashion Week 2026 is expected to provide international exposure for Malawian fashion and highlight the country’s growing creative talent.
